Winter in my soul February 18, 2008

Winter is cold, slow, covered, and restrains the flow of life from sun to earth and water.  All is still. Nothing moves, except to seek warmth.

I am all wintersoul inside of late.

Something tried to break out the other day. Uh Oh…  A repressed feeling.  Fed by the energy of the repression.  Whacked a mole and it went back in.  Fornow.

Where is my passion oh Lord?  My power oh Lord.  Let us walk on water and heal the blind, oh Lord…

Yeah though I walk, i stumble.  Yeah though I talk, I mumble.  Yeah though I would stand, I crumble.  Come near me oh Lord and see that I am humble.

I awayt thee.

Be A Mountain February 8, 2008

When the storm rages, does the mountain care?

When attacked by unbelievers, or even a misguided brother, or by circumstances that seem to conspire to drag me away from the spirit, my human nature is to retaliate.  If coming from a higher place, I want to go to my attacker and persuade them by reason to abandon the adventure of making me look bad.  Sometimes it even seems obvious that one could appeal to a brother with biblical admonitions against gossip or careless talk.  It is said that speaking careless words can kill a brother.  The tounge is cable of stoning somebody to death.  I want to shout, from the rooftops YOU ARE WRONG!!!

Failing the occasion to convert an enemy to a friend, or at least failing to get them to be silent for fear of God’s wrath, I have readily engaged STEP 2…. MAKE THEM PAY.  (hanging head in shame).  Yes, I have erred.  And the cost is not really in terms of my relationship with God, because Christ paid…  but there is a very real cost in that the effort always backfires even in earthly terms.  One’s witness is ruined when one behaves this way.

Of course, I have erred in all these ways.  But by some grand design, I have been forgiven.  I can come back to the family as a prodigal, and my Father welcomes me with open arms.

With enough misadventure, I have FINALLY begun to learn to imitate one of God’s grandest creations.

THE MOUNTAIN.

The mountain cares not about the momentary onslaught of ”mere weather”.

The torrential downpour of falsehoods or trumped up accusations cannot hurt the rock.

I am made like a rock on the face of rain when life starts hurling slings and arrows these days.  At least on those glorious occasions when I pray before I act…  And HEAR these glorious words…

VENGEANCE IS MINE SAYETH THE LORD!

In times past, I might have said… YES AND I AM GOING TO HELP!

But maturity is nice.  I yield.  I surrender.  It is not weak, but is powerful.  My witness is maintained, and now I get to watch God work!
